Many old relationships
remain only as a relic
of the past,
of ourselves,
of our story
and they serve
just that purpose
as relics.
The thing with relics is
that they are of no real use.
We look at them with pride,
that we preserved them from perishing,
overlooking the fact that
we kept them ignored
for most part of the past
and they are here as they are
just because their shelf life
is not over yet
and not because they were
kept well.
But this is not to say
that relics are useless...
this is just to clarify
that relics are relics...
Do not attempt to compare
the spent oil lamp
with broken glass
and dust all over
with your new shiny LED
the lamp has served beyond its age...
the lamp has faught darkness
when no electric lights were around
and even today
it needs no electricity...
and just because it may serve no practical purpose
do not throw it away...
keep it for what it is - a relic.
A relic from the times
when you were young...
A relic of those days
and its memories...
A relic which you have passed
like a fleeting milestone on a highway....
which, though unimportant, was marking your journey
and even you remember your length of journey by reference to it....
Keep it at a shelf
which you need to see
only once in a long while
but keep it
and see it
to remind you
of the journey
and the direction.
But do not go to the lamp and say
'you don't light like my LED'
and do not go to the lamp and say
'you do not light like you used to'
A relic is turned into one
by the slow effect of time
I hope you are mature enough
to not discount the time...
Just remember...
a relic is a relic
and nothing more
but nothing less.
